Today I ran my first proper subzero circuit (at -4C) around Richmond Park and it was hard…
It is the first long-ish run of the year as I build up resistance for the Paris marathon in April. How on earth am I going to do this? I have no clue…But overcoming the hardship of running in freezing temperatures in my Venezuelan body, feeling cold throughout the 12 kilometres I ran today, counts as a sort of milestone and a promising sign ahead of the training challenges to overcome.
My beloved Venezuela, as always, was in my head throughout the run. We’ve gone through some very difficult last few days as tyranny pretends to halt Venezuelans’ desire for freedom. The regime doesn’t get that there are dreams that cannot be halted. I couldn’t help remembering Amanda Gorman’s poem “The Hill We Climb,” in which she says: “While democracy can be periodically delayed / it can never be permanently defeated.”
The leader of our quest for democracy in Venezuela, Maria Corina Machado, has shown us that no mountain is insurmountable. She is the ultimate heroine and I will follow her till the end: HASTA EL FINAL, a motto which, why not? may also carry me through the weeks of training ahead.
SI SE PUEDE!!! Long term commitment, sustained effort, preparation, strategy, milestones, progress, support and finally the achievement of the ultimate goal!!!
Suerte en el proximo maraton de Paris.
